Nanae,
an exclusive MAQAM® artist, is world renowned
in Middle Eastern and Oriental dance. Born in Tokyo, she began ballet
at the age of three, and holds a master’s degree in performing
arts from Tamagawa University where she studied Kabuki dance, ballet,
and acting. In her teens, with a desire to create a new style, Nanae
embarked on a journey to study traditional dances around the world
and discovered Middle Eastern dance.
For over a decade, Nanae has traveled the world
performing the ancient art of Arabic and Middle Eastern dance and
has worked with many legendary choreographers and dancers. Performing
at the Academy of Middle Eastern Dance’s Hall of Fame
in 1996, she worked with the late Mr. Ibrahim Farrah, and in 1997,
Nanae was the featured artist in his last show,
A Journey. Nanae has also worked with the legendary Caracalla Lebanese
Dance Troupe, choreographing and performing with Mr. Ghassan Fadlallah,
and subsequently introducing the art of the Troupe in her native
Japan. She established Studio Nana in 2000, and in 2001 she formed
the Nanae Oriental Dance Company where she fuses Middle Eastern
dance with both her early ballet training and dramatic theatre themes.
Nanae holds the distinguished honor of being the first Sharqi dancer
to ever present an Arabic performance at a major US sports venue
when she performed “A Feeling Like Love” at Soldier
Field (Chicago, IL) in 2006. This historic event was repeated one
week later with Nanae’s performance of “Where It All
Begins” at the world-famous Wrigley Field in Chicago. Nanae
is now a much sought after performer and choreographer, dancing
and instructing in Asia, North America, and the Middle East.
Nanae’s exceptional choreographic and dance
skills are surpassed only by her performance artistry. She is world
renowned for her exquisite lines, her fluid, nature-defying movements,
her dramatic interpretation of Arabic music, and her ability to
connect the audience with the story and emotion of the folkloric
dances of the Middle East. |
