Description
For the beginner dancer, this music provides a basic rhythm study in a non-repetitive yet easy dance style. For the intermediate dancer, it provides uncomplicated tribal rhythms with a percussion heavy enough to keep zil work from becoming burdensome while maintaining a high level of creativity. For the advanced dancer, the music provides an exciting palette of rhythms enhanced with a myriad of ethnic percussive instruments such as the darboukeh, riqq, zils, djembe and frame drums. Each piece contains enough playful accents to keep an audience intrigued and presents the most popular Middle Eastern rhythms in an inspiring style which communicates the heartbeat of the dance. -- Krisha Kazimira

I love this CD to teach class with. Most of the rhythms are mid-tempo, and not overly complicated. This is very important when you are trying to teach someone about Arabic rhythms and you need to be able to hear the basic rhythm. This all percussion CD is also great to teach the basics of hip work, or any other steps for that matter. Again, because it is not overly complicated and has a great tempo.

I would add to the previous review that while the main tempo is very clear and very steady (no tricks or sudden rhythm changes to perplex a student dancer) the melody line changes both to prevent the beat from becoming tedious and allowing some emotional expression. Just because these are simple rhythms does not mean this cd could not be used for performance. it is a great mid-tempo cd, don't underestimate it!
